Whatever your retailer calls it — MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic, sun-shelter transparent fabric — it is the same material, and we replace it in Châteauguay in your existing panels.

Why the vinyl gives up

Summer UV

Sun yellows and clouds the vinyl. Film that crackles to the touch is at end of life.

Winter frost

Below freezing, MICA turns brittle — one handling or one gust splits it outright.

Wind, all year

Slack vinyl flaps like a sail and eventually tears at the seams.

Gazebos in Châteauguay

The converted summer cottages along the Châteauguay River rarely came with a retail gazebo. When there is one on the lot, it is more often a structure an owner added over the years of expansions: a wooden gazebo or screened shelter built to measure between the house and the water, with panels made for that frame and no other. These structures live in the river wind and the damp of the bank; the wood that holds the mesh ages along with the mesh, and the two are assessed together. The film, where there is any, closes the structure on the water side to stretch the season.

The sprawling post-war suburb, on the other hand, is retail-gazebo country. The bungalows and split-levels built between 1960 and 1985 have good-sized backyards, and the aluminum or steel gazebo with standard panels has found its spot on the deck, often next to the pool. The original panels on these gazebos reach the end of their life on the film side long before the structure does. Farther west, in the newer residential sectors, the gazebos are smaller, in common sizes, and set in less wooded yards where wind and sun hit unfiltered. Those small gazebos age fast on the film side for exactly that reason.

Screens and vinyl: what gives out in Châteauguay

On the retail gazebo of a 1960-1985 yard, the film yellows, stiffens and splits; we replace it pane by pane, cut to exact size, in the original frame. The screening tears at the corner of a low panel or loses its spline; we rescreen it in its frame, new spline included. On the wooden structures of riverside lots, the logic is the same but nothing is standard: every opening is measured, the mesh is stretched over the frame and held by its groove or strips, and the film is cut to a template of the opening. Either way the structure stays where it is — we redo what closes the openings, never what carries them.

Structure and access in Châteauguay

A retail gazebo comes apart from the deck, panel by panel, and is redone in the mobile workshop before going back up; the yards of bungalows and split-levels leave room to move around. Near the river, access depends on how the cottage was expanded: an addition or an enclosed porch can cut off the way to the back, and the panels of a wooden structure, larger and heavier, move with two people. The wood also gets looked at before anything is tensioned: on a damp lot, a groove that has rotted will hold neither new mesh nor spline.

Wind, sun, insects: choosing in Châteauguay

Two exposures share Châteauguay. Along the river, humid air and slow water bring the bank insects, and tight-weave mesh is the call on a riverside gazebo; the wind that follows the watercourse beats on the film, which argues for taking it down in spring and for aluminum mesh on the exposed side. In the suburban yards, and especially the newer western sectors, direct sun does the wearing: yellowed film, brittle fibreglass. In those newer western sectors, standard fibreglass holds up on the upper panels, and it is the low panel facing the pool deck that earns pet-resistant mesh.

A real job, start to finish

This job was not in Châteauguay — it shows our method, the same everywhere: panels down, new vinyl pane by pane, panels back up.

  1. Six-pane gazebo panel with torn, sagging MICA vinyl before replacement
1 On arrival: the original vinyl, torn
  2. Roll of new MICA vinyl stretched over a gazebo panel frame on the work stand
2 Fitting: new vinyl drawn over the frame
  3. First finished gazebo panel with perfectly clear new MICA vinyl
3 First panel done, crystal-clear vinyl
  4. Finished six-pane gazebo panel with new MICA vinyl and the original frame intact
4 Final result: six panes, frame intact

Common questions

My wooden shelter by the river has old mesh in a frame that was built to measure. Can it be redone in the same frame?

Yes, if the wood holding it is still sound. We remove the old mesh and whatever held it, check the groove or the strips, repair what has split or rotted, then stretch new mesh over the existing frame. The structure does not move. If the openings have shifted over the years, each one is measured before cutting.

The film on my backyard gazebo always splits at the same corner. Why?

A corner that splits repeatedly is under a strain the others are not: a frame slightly open at that angle, spline missing over a few centimetres, or simply the side the prevailing wind comes from. We close up the frame corner and replace the pane, checking the spline all the way around; on the windward side, aluminum mesh can replace battered film if needed.

My retail gazebo was set up beside the pool. Does it need a special mesh?

Not because of the pool water. What matters is exposure: a gazebo beside a pool is rarely in the shade, and direct sun yellows the film and weakens fibreglass faster than elsewhere in the yard. We keep standard fibreglass on most panels and take a closer look at the ones that get the afternoon sun.

Do you replace gazebo vinyl in Châteauguay?

Yes, at your home. We travel to Châteauguay, remove the panels, replace the MICA vinyl in the original frames and put everything back — the gazebo structure is never touched. It is one of our specialties.

MICA film, clear vinyl, gazebo plastic: are they the same thing?

Yes. Depending on the retailer it is called MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic or transparent fabric — the same flexible material that cuts wind and holds warmth. We replace it on gazebos and sun shelters alike.

Can a single pane be replaced?

Yes. The vinyl is replaced pane by pane, in the existing frame — no need to redo the whole panel for one tear. If several panes have yellowed, doing them together gives a uniform result.

What does it cost?

On assessment: the price depends on the number of panels and their dimensions. The quote is free, and a photo is often enough to price without a visit. Fabrication and installation guaranteed one year.
