Whatever your retailer calls it — MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic, sun-shelter transparent fabric — it is the same material, and we replace it in Delson in your existing panels.

Why the vinyl gives up

Summer UV

Sun yellows and clouds the vinyl. Film that crackles to the touch is at end of life.

Winter frost

Below freezing, MICA turns brittle — one handling or one gust splits it outright.

Wind, all year

Slack vinyl flaps like a sail and eventually tears at the seams.

Gazebos in Delson

Delson occupies a very small territory, and it shows in the yards. The older sector, built up around the railway between 1960 and 1985, has regular lots with a clear backyard behind each bungalow. That is where most of the town's gazebos live: retailer models with aluminum or steel frames and standard-size panels, set on a slab or a wooden deck in the middle of the lot. On a gazebo of that family it is almost never the structure that has moved — it is what was fitted into it, season after season, that has run its course.

On the side facing Candiac the picture changes. The newer cottage and semi-detached neighbourhoods have narrow lots set close together, and the gazebo goes on the back deck rather than out on the lawn. Two houses that close create a corridor: wind funnels through instead of passing by, speeds up between the walls, and pulls on the film on one side of the gazebo far harder than on the other. The models are smaller there, often four or six panes, and one panel fewer means one more panel taking the load. That is concentrated wear, not general wear. On those lots the gazebo is also closer to the house, so a panel that has to come out passes between the deck rail and the fence rather than across open lawn.

Screens and vinyl: what gives out in Delson

The clear vinyl (MICA film) is almost always the first to go. It spends summer yellowing and winter stiffening, and once stiff it no longer tells a breeze from a gust: the split starts at a corner, a grommet or the edge of a batten, and the pane begins to snap in the wind. We redo it new, cut to dimensions taken pane by pane, back into the existing frame. On the screen side, three failures come up again and again: slack mesh that bellies out and loses its shape, a corner nick that lengthens every time the panel is pulled, and a spline lifted out of its groove. The panel comes down, is rescreened on site, and goes back up.

Structure and access in Delson

Access is what needs the most thought in Delson. On a semi-detached lot the gazebo often takes up the whole usable width of the yard: the panel being redone comes down inward and is worked flat inside the structure, without ever having to leave the property. So we work in the yard itself, with the workshop as close as possible, and only bring down the panels being redone. On a gazebo standing on a raised deck, the lower panels are the heaviest to handle but the simplest to release; it is the upper ones that call for two people.

Wind, sun, insects: choosing in Delson

The wind here is not open-water wind, it is corridor wind: accelerated between two close houses, it works the same face of the gazebo every time. On that face the film has to be fastened tight, with no slack, or it drums and fatigues in a single season. Sun falls hardest on the open yards of the newer sector, where no mature tree has grown in yet: aluminum mesh holds its tension and its colour there better than fibreglass. A Delson backyard gazebo does not back onto a woodlot: what wears the film here is the wind corridor between two houses, not the insects.

A real job, start to finish

This job was not in Delson — it shows our method, the same everywhere: panels down, new vinyl pane by pane, panels back up.

  1. Six-pane gazebo panel with torn, sagging MICA vinyl before replacement
1 On arrival: the original vinyl, torn
  2. Roll of new MICA vinyl stretched over a gazebo panel frame on the work stand
2 Fitting: new vinyl drawn over the frame
  3. First finished gazebo panel with perfectly clear new MICA vinyl
3 First panel done, crystal-clear vinyl
  4. Finished six-pane gazebo panel with new MICA vinyl and the original frame intact
4 Final result: six panes, frame intact

Straight answers

Common questions

Wind from one side tore the film. Can it be reinforced there?

It is mostly redone differently: tension and the number of fastening points decide the outcome, not thickness alone. Film installed taut and held along its full height drums far less, so it fatigues far less. On a gazebo face caught in a corridor between two houses, that detail is what makes the difference.

Should the gazebo be emptied before you come?

About a metre of clearance inside, along the faces being redone, is enough: panels come down inward and need room to be manoeuvred. Heavy furniture can stay in the centre. On a narrow deck, a little open space outside the gazebo also helps, since the panels get laid flat to be worked on.

My gazebo only has four panes. Does that change anything?

Yes, in terms of wear. The fewer panels there are, the larger the share of wind and sun each one takes, and the sooner corner splits appear. It does not make the work harder — often the opposite — but it explains why a small gazebo needs new film sooner than a large one.

Do you replace gazebo vinyl in Delson?

Yes, at your home. We travel to Delson, remove the panels, replace the MICA vinyl in the original frames and put everything back — the gazebo structure is never touched. It is one of our specialties.

MICA film, clear vinyl, gazebo plastic: are they the same thing?

Yes. Depending on the retailer it is called MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic or transparent fabric — the same flexible material that cuts wind and holds warmth. We replace it on gazebos and sun shelters alike.

Can a single pane be replaced?

Yes. The vinyl is replaced pane by pane, in the existing frame — no need to redo the whole panel for one tear. If several panes have yellowed, doing them together gives a uniform result.

What does it cost?

On assessment: the price depends on the number of panels and their dimensions. The quote is free, and a photo is often enough to price without a visit. Fabrication and installation guaranteed one year.
