Gazebo and sun shelter specialty
Clear vinyl yellowed or torn? Replaced at your home in Greenfield Park, in the original frames — gazebos and sun shelters.
Three questions are enough to start. The official measurement is taken on site.
Whatever your retailer calls it — MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic, sun-shelter transparent fabric — it is the same material, and we replace it in Greenfield Park in your existing panels.
Sun yellows and clouds the vinyl. Film that crackles to the touch is at end of life.
Below freezing, MICA turns brittle — one handling or one gust splits it outright.
Slack vinyl flaps like a sail and eventually tears at the seams.
Back yards in Greenfield Park are postwar suburban yards: lots built up between 1945 and 1965 around small brick cottages and bungalows, deep enough for a table and a shelter, rarely much more. That is exactly the format retailer gazebos were made for — an aluminum or steel frame, standard-sized panels, put up over a weekend behind the house. The old summer-resort village near the railway also left a few more generous lots behind, where a permanent wood structure built to measure, with one-of-a-kind panels, makes full sense. Both families sit side by side from one street to the next, and they are not restored the same way.
The second trait of the neighbourhood is the trees. Streets planted after the war now carry wide canopies, and a shelter set beneath them spends much of the day in shade. That is a blessing for clear vinyl (MICA film), which direct sun yellows, and a nuisance for everything else: leaves, seed keys and sap settle on the panes, hold water, and keep panels damp longer than they should be. Add that many of these houses gained a patio door through later renovations: when a garden shelter goes up as an extension of that opening, it sits against the house rather than at the back of the lot, where wind runs between the buildings instead of being stopped by them.
On a retailer gazebo in this neighbourhood, the clear film goes first, and almost always the same way: it yellows, it stiffens, then a gust splits it from a grommet or a corner. We replace it pane by pane, to dimensions taken on site, inside the original frame — the gazebo structure itself is never touched. The screen panels follow later: mesh tears at a corner, slackens in the middle, or the spline lifts out of its groove and frees a whole side. Those are rescreened in their own frames. On the tall panels of a shelter raised on a deck, aluminum mesh holds its plane where fibreglass bellies out.
The work depends on which family of gazebo you own. On a retailer frame, panels unclip or unscrew, are rebuilt in the mobile shop and go back up the same visit. On a permanent wood structure, every panel is unique and screwed to the framing: each one is measured on its own, with no reliance on a standard size. What is particular to this area is what already occupies the back of the house: the enclosed veranda and the later patio door take up the room, and the shelter fits into what is left. The takedown order is set around those structures before a single panel is opened. The way out is checked before anything comes apart.
Under mature trees, clear film ages more slowly than in full sun, but it soils quickly and moisture lingers between the panes: upkeep matters here as much as exposure. Wind channels between the buildings and hits a shelter set close to the house before one at the back of the lot — that is where loosely fitted film starts to flap. As for insects, a treed suburban yard stays tolerable with standard mesh; a tighter weave earns its keep if you want to eat outside in peace. Film goes on before the first cold snap, while the frames are still dry.

Stiff film has already lost its flexibility: it no longer flexes, it cracks. The split comes with the first strong gust, often in midwinter, and it starts at a fastening point. Replacing a pane that is still whole can be scheduled; replacing a split one is something you endure. If the stiffness is obvious to the touch, the end is close.
Yes, because we are not hunting for a manufacturer's part. The film is cut to the dimensions taken from your own pane and fitted into the frame you already have; a screen panel is rescreened in its own frame. A brand that vanished changes nothing: the original frame is the template, not a catalogue.
Not directly, but indirectly, yes. Debris collects along bottom rails and joints, holds water, and keeps both mesh and film damp. Mesh that stays wet soils deep into the weave and slackens faster; dirty film loses its clarity. Clearing the bottoms of the panels each fall pays for itself.
Yes, at your home. We travel to Greenfield Park, remove the panels, replace the MICA vinyl in the original frames and put everything back — the gazebo structure is never touched. It is one of our specialties.
Yes. Depending on the retailer it is called MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic or transparent fabric — the same flexible material that cuts wind and holds warmth. We replace it on gazebos and sun shelters alike.
Yes. The vinyl is replaced pane by pane, in the existing frame — no need to redo the whole panel for one tear. If several panes have yellowed, doing them together gives a uniform result.
On assessment: the price depends on the number of panels and their dimensions. The quote is free, and a photo is often enough to price without a visit. Fabrication and installation guaranteed one year.
