Gazebo and sun shelter specialty
Clear vinyl yellowed or torn? Replaced at your home in Saint-Joseph-du-Lac, in the original frames — gazebos and sun shelters.
Three questions are enough to start. The official measurement is taken on site.
Whatever your retailer calls it — MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic, sun-shelter transparent fabric — it is the same material, and we replace it in Saint-Joseph-du-Lac in your existing panels.
Sun yellows and clouds the vinyl. Film that crackles to the touch is at end of life.
Below freezing, MICA turns brittle — one handling or one gust splits it outright.
Slack vinyl flaps like a sail and eventually tears at the seams.
Three kinds of property sit side by side in Saint-Joseph-du-Lac, and each calls for its own gazebo. Around the orchards, the old farmhouses have large open yards, often with no tree screen on the side facing the apple rows: the permanent wood structure belongs there, built when the yard was laid out and never standard. Near Lac des Deux Montagnes, the summer properties have a gazebo turned toward the water, mostly in wood as well. On the newer cottages and bungalows built on large lots, the retailer gazebo takes over: aluminum or steel, with panel formats that repeat from one side to the next.
Lot size changes the relationship to wind and sun. On a large open property a gazebo gets no shelter at all: full-day sun, and wind crossing the orchards with nothing to break it. In the waterfront sector the gazebo faces the lake, so the wind arrives on one or two particular sides, and those wear out well before the rest. The same municipality can therefore hold, within a short distance, one gazebo whose film is finished all around and another where only the exposed sides are gone. Two identical structures, in other words, do not necessarily need the same work. That is what makes a side-by-side survey essential before quoting anything.
On the wood structures of the older and waterfront sectors, no pane matches its neighbour: the build followed the property, and the original film was cut to fit inside it. Once that film has yellowed, stiffened and split — almost always starting at a fastened edge — we redo it to the true size of each opening, in the frame that is there, without touching the posts. On a retailer gazebo at a newer cottage the logic reverses: the panels repeat, the screening comes out on clips or slides, and mesh that has sagged or torn at a corner is rebuilt in its own frame. A spline lifted out of its groove is the most common failure in that family, and the quickest to correct.
You have to arrive ready for both worlds. A custom wood panel is measured pane by pane, because a structure built decades ago has moved and is no longer square. A retailer panel is measured once and repeated. The other particularity is lot size: the gazebo is rarely up against the house, it sits at the back of the property or on the water side, and it is not always alone — a shed, a sunroom or a pergola have openings of their own. Walking the whole property on arrival avoids a return trip for two panes forgotten at the far end of the yard.
Three pressures share the ground. Sun first: on a large lot with no screen, it yellows film faster than any other factor and makes fibreglass brittle. Then wind, steady through the orchard sectors and on the properties facing the lake: the film goes on properly tensioned there, and aluminum mesh holds tension better on a large pane. Insects last — near the water, no-see-ums at dusk go straight through an ordinary mesh, and a tight weave on the evening sides is what makes the space usable after supper.

This job was not in Saint-Joseph-du-Lac — it shows our method, the same everywhere: panels down, new vinyl pane by pane, panels back up.

« Excellent service. Clear explanations of the work to be done. I really appreciated his dedication: despite the rain he insisted on finishing the job, soaked through and still smiling. The work was very well done. »
« Great service! He was at my neighbour’s and agreed to fix my back screen even though we had no appointment. Very successful repair, and inexpensive! »
« Ludovic replaced my screen in record time. Professional, and with a great sense of humour. I recommend his services — don’t hesitate to contact him, he’ll come to your home and do beautiful work. »

That is the normal situation with a custom structure, and it is not a problem. Every opening is measured on its own, out-of-square included, and both the film and the mesh are cut to those dimensions. What should not be done is forcing a stock size into an old opening: the film then works on the bias and tears at the first corner that was pulled to make up the difference.
Partly. Properly tensioned film ages better than loose film, because it is not working itself loose at its fastening points. The rest comes down to exposure, and there you can plan side by side: on the sunny face, expect the vinyl to be the wear item; on the shaded face it will last considerably longer. On those same exposed faces, aluminum mesh outlasts fibreglass.
The principle is identical as long as we are dealing with panels in a frame: take it down, redo the mesh or the film in the original frame, put it back, and the structure stays untouched. What changes is the number of dimensions to record. On a large lot, it is worth showing everything on the first pass so the survey covers it all at once.
Yes, at your home. We travel to Saint-Joseph-du-Lac, remove the panels, replace the MICA vinyl in the original frames and put everything back — the gazebo structure is never touched. It is one of our specialties.
Yes. Depending on the retailer it is called MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic or transparent fabric — the same flexible material that cuts wind and holds warmth. We replace it on gazebos and sun shelters alike.
Yes. The vinyl is replaced pane by pane, in the existing frame — no need to redo the whole panel for one tear. If several panes have yellowed, doing them together gives a uniform result.
On assessment: the price depends on the number of panels and their dimensions. The quote is free, and a photo is often enough to price without a visit. Fabrication and installation guaranteed one year.
