Gazebo and sun shelter specialty
Clear vinyl yellowed or torn? Replaced at your home in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, in the original frames — gazebos and sun shelters.
Three questions are enough to start. The official measurement is taken on site.
Whatever your retailer calls it — MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic, sun-shelter transparent fabric — it is the same material, and we replace it in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac in your existing panels.
Sun yellows and clouds the vinyl. Film that crackles to the touch is at end of life.
Below freezing, MICA turns brittle — one handling or one gust splits it outright.
Slack vinyl flaps like a sail and eventually tears at the seams.
Backyards in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac carry the town’s history. A house that began as a Lake of Two Mountains cottage and became a bungalow or single-storey home in the 1970s or 1980s rarely has a yard that was laid out all at once: the gazebo went up afterward, often on a slab or a deck added at the same time as an extension. In those yards the retailer gazebo dominates — aluminum or steel frame, so-called standard panel sizes, divided into several lights per side. The newer subdivisions on the edge of town have the same family of structure, only younger and on smaller lots. Two situations, one repair method, and panels of very different ages.
Closer to the water you meet the other family: the permanent wood structure, built to suit the lot it stands on, with one-off panels that repeat nowhere. The rebuilding done since the 2019 flood put a great many yards back under construction, and a gazebo that spent that period taken apart — leaned against a garage, then reassembled on a fresh slab — rarely comes back untouched. Panels twist, the clear vinyl (MICA film) keeps the crease it was folded along, and spline works its way out of the groove. All of that is redone inside the original frames, with nothing done to the gazebo structure itself.
On a retailer gazebo, the clear vinyl (MICA film) is almost always what goes first. Soft vinyl facing full sun yellows, then stiffens, and stiff vinyl no longer flexes: the first real gust splits it, usually at the corner of a light or along a seam. We replace it light by light, to the measurement taken in each rebate — in a yard enlarged in stages, two neighbouring lights look alike without matching. The screen panels follow later: mesh that has slackened over several summers drums in the wind, and spline that has lifted in one corner leaves a gap no insect misses. Rescreening in the frame, new spline, tension pulled back by hand, panel returned where it came from.
Two structures, two ways of working. On a retailer gazebo the panels come off their clips or screws, get numbered, and go to the mobile shop parked in the driveway: a standard size is only standard in the catalogue, and two neighbouring lights can differ by half an inch. On a custom wood structure, every opening is measured on all four sides, because the wood has moved since it was built. Access matters too. A fenced yard with no side gate means panels have to travel through the house, and that is worth arranging before we arrive rather than on the doorstep.
A gazebo standing in an open yard on the Lake of Two Mountains side takes wind head-on for much of the year, and wind is what settles the choice here. On a large panel that flexes, aluminum holds its tension better than fibreglass; the film, for its part, has to go on properly stretched, with no slack, or it snaps all winter and lets go at a corner. Sun does the rest on the south faces. For waterside insects, tight-weave mesh earns its place on the sides facing the water, at the cost of a little airflow.

This job was not in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac — it shows our method, the same everywhere: panels down, new vinyl pane by pane, panels back up.

Straight answers
Yellowing is not only a matter of looks: it means the vinyl has hardened. Hardened film no longer follows the flex of the panel and splits at the first strong gust, often at the worst point of the winter. If it crackles under your fingers when you bend it slightly, replacing it before the windy stretch beats replacing it in a hurry afterward.
Not necessarily. A slightly twisted aluminum or steel frame can be brought back true, and what really suffered in storage is the mesh or the film — creases, cuts where the panel rested, spline pushed out. We look at each panel on its own: the ones whose frame still holds square get redone, the ones with a profile folded in half get replaced.
Yes, film is redone light by light inside the original frame. One caveat: two fresh lights beside four yellowed ones show immediately, and those four are the same age as the ones that just failed. So a full side sometimes gets redone for consistency rather than out of necessity.
Yes, at your home. We travel to Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, remove the panels, replace the MICA vinyl in the original frames and put everything back — the gazebo structure is never touched. It is one of our specialties.
Yes. Depending on the retailer it is called MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic or transparent fabric — the same flexible material that cuts wind and holds warmth. We replace it on gazebos and sun shelters alike.
Yes. The vinyl is replaced pane by pane, in the existing frame — no need to redo the whole panel for one tear. If several panes have yellowed, doing them together gives a uniform result.
On assessment: the price depends on the number of panels and their dimensions. The quote is free, and a photo is often enough to price without a visit. Fabrication and installation guaranteed one year.
