Gazebo and sun shelter specialty
Clear vinyl yellowed or torn? Replaced at your home in Boisbriand, in the original frames — gazebos and sun shelters.
Three questions are enough to start. The official measurement is taken on site.
Whatever your retailer calls it — MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic, sun-shelter transparent fabric — it is the same material, and we replace it in Boisbriand in your existing panels.
Sun yellows and clouds the vinyl. Film that crackles to the touch is at end of life.
Below freezing, MICA turns brittle — one handling or one gust splits it outright.
Slack vinyl flaps like a sail and eventually tears at the seams.
Boisbriand packs thirty years of suburban backyards into one town. The brick bungalows, cottages and semi-detached homes built between 1970 and 2000 have backyards of classic proportions, often with a wooden deck, and that is where the retail gazebo settled over the years, on its slab or its platform. The models differ from one yard to the next — a gazebo bought in 1995 has nothing in common with one from 2015 — but all share the same principle: an aluminum or steel structure, standard-format panels for that production year, and clear vinyl (MICA film) sold as an option, which wears out long before the structure does.
The Faubourg Boisbriand added a new generation to that picture: homes with PVC windows and patio doors opening onto small yards, where a small-format retail gazebo is the only one that fits. Those yards are tight and exposed to the neighbours’ wind, the opposite of the wider 1970s lots. Permanent wood structures are found mostly on the larger properties of the older housing, wherever someone has had a pool dug or a hot tub installed. A town spread across three decades of construction means three different ways for a gazebo to age, and three ways to approach it.
On the gazebos in 1970s-to-1990s yards, the original clear vinyl has often outlived its useful life: yellowed, stiffened, split at a corner by an October gust. The screen lasts longer, but its spline works out of the frame under wind tension, or the mesh tears where a branch or a chair caught it. In the small new yards of the Faubourg, the film wears out differently: it beats continuously in the wind corridor between the houses and frays at the folds before it even yellows. In every case, we replace the film pane by pane in the original frame and rescreen each mesh panel in its own, after measuring on site — never from the model name.
A retail gazebo comes apart panel by panel, with no contact with posts or roof, and that is what makes the work possible even when the model no longer exists. On a semi-detached, the backyard is reachable from one side only, often through a narrow fence gate: the panels go through there, or through the house. In the Faubourg, a yard can be too compact to work around the structure: when that is the case, the panels come off one at a time and are redone at the mobile workshop in the driveway. A wood structure beside a pool calls for measuring every opening, because none of them is standard. What gets redone is the panels; the structure stays standing.
The pressure varies from one street to the next. A 1970s yard backing onto a woodlot keeps its mosquitoes and no-see-ums active late into the evening, and a gazebo meant for evenings there deserves fine mesh. A Faubourg yard, open and squeezed between two houses, suffers instead from wind and shadeless sun: the film yellows and beats, and aluminum mesh holds up better than fibreglass. The film goes up when the yard stops being used in the fall; it comes off in spring if you want the gazebo’s airflow back, and stays up if what you are cutting is wind, year-round.

This job was not in Boisbriand — it shows our method, the same everywhere: panels down, new vinyl pane by pane, panels back up.

« Excellent service. Clear explanations of the work to be done. I really appreciated his dedication: despite the rain he insisted on finishing the job, soaked through and still smiling. The work was very well done. »
« Great service! He was at my neighbour’s and agreed to fix my back screen even though we had no appointment. Very successful repair, and inexpensive! »
« Ludovic replaced my screen in record time. Professional, and with a great sense of humour. I recommend his services — don’t hesitate to contact him, he’ll come to your home and do beautiful work. »
Straight answers
Yes. The film does not depend on the model: it is cut to the exact dimensions of each pane, in the original frame, whatever the gazebo’s age. What we check first is the frame itself — a twenty-five-year-old aluminum profile is usually still straight — and the groove that holds the film. If both are sound, everything else can be redone.
Both, but not in the same place. On the face that takes the wind corridor between the houses, an aluminum screen holds tension better than film, which would beat nonstop. The film is kept for the sheltered faces, where it cuts the cold without taking a pounding. Film properly tensioned in a sound frame already beats far less than tired film.
Fine mesh on the faces that look onto the woodlot; ordinary mesh on the others. A gazebo is rescreened face by face, which lets you pay for the fine weave where it works and keep the airflow elsewhere. And the question only arises in summer: in winter it is the film panes that close those same openings.
Yes, at your home. We travel to Boisbriand, remove the panels, replace the MICA vinyl in the original frames and put everything back — the gazebo structure is never touched. It is one of our specialties.
Yes. Depending on the retailer it is called MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic or transparent fabric — the same flexible material that cuts wind and holds warmth. We replace it on gazebos and sun shelters alike.
Yes. The vinyl is replaced pane by pane, in the existing frame — no need to redo the whole panel for one tear. If several panes have yellowed, doing them together gives a uniform result.
On assessment: the price depends on the number of panels and their dimensions. The quote is free, and a photo is often enough to price without a visit. Fabrication and installation guaranteed one year.
