Gazebo and sun shelter specialty
Clear vinyl yellowed or torn? Replaced at your home in Terrebonne, in the original frames — gazebos and sun shelters.
Three questions are enough to start. The official measurement is taken on site.
Whatever your retailer calls it — MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic, sun-shelter transparent fabric — it is the same material, and we replace it in Terrebonne in your existing panels.
Sun yellows and clouds the vinyl. Film that crackles to the touch is at end of life.
Below freezing, MICA turns brittle — one handling or one gust splits it outright.
Slack vinyl flaps like a sail and eventually tears at the seams.
Lachenaie and La Plaine were built after 1980: two-storey houses, semis, townhouses, each with a patio door opening onto a backyard of carefully measured size. That is the natural ground of the store-bought gazebo, set on the deck or on pavers at the back of the lot, often bought in the same season as the hot tub or the above-ground pool. On townhouse streets the yard is narrow and fenced on both sides: the gazebo takes nearly the full width, one side hard against the fence, and its panels on the walkway side take every knock — the barbecue being moved, the wheelbarrow, the kids.
Old Terrebonne is a different register. Around the stone and wood houses of the 19th century a gazebo is never original; where there is one, it was added — a wood structure built to suit the house, or a pergola closed in with made-to-measure panels. These structures have one-off openings, often taller than anything sold in a box, and the wood in them has worked with the years. Lots there are larger and more planted than in the newer developments, which shelters from the wind but brings the evening insects closer.
On the store-bought gazebos of Lachenaie and La Plaine the clear vinyl (MICA film) goes first: put up to stretch the hot-tub season, it takes the whole summer’s sun, yellows, hardens in the cold and splits at a corner under a gust funnelled between two houses. The screen, taken out and put back every year, tears where the spline holds it or sags across the big panels. The aluminum or steel frame is almost always sound. We measure each pane, cut clear vinyl to the exact size and fit it into the original frame; the screen is rescreened in that same frame with new spline and the tension brought back. On a wood structure in Old Terrebonne the same work is done opening by opening, in the existing grooves.
In a semi or a townhouse the yard is often reached only through a narrow side passage or through the house: a store-bought gazebo panel, long and light, is then handled with both hands and brought out one at a time. It also needs a flat place to be rebuilt — the deck or the garage floor will do. On a permanent wood structure the panels are screwed into their openings rather than clipped; they come unscrewed, get rebuilt, and go back into the same holes. In both cases the gazebo structure is never touched — not its posts, not its roof.
In a recent development the hedges have no height yet and the yards pass the wind to one another: the vinyl slaps, and its tension is what saves or loses it. Pulled tight in a straight frame it holds; loose, it wears through at the corner. The sun on those open yards yellows the vinyl, and on the south face the fibreglass screen weakens too. Around the treed lots of La Plaine or the old sector a tighter weave stops the small evening insects; and on the panels along the walkway, the ones already taking the barbecue and the wheelbarrow, pet-resistant mesh shrugs off snags that ordinary fibreglass does not.

This job was not in Terrebonne — it shows our method, the same everywhere: panels down, new vinyl pane by pane, panels back up.

We replace the panes that bother you, not necessarily all of them. Each pane is measured and cut separately from new clear vinyl and fitted into the original frame. If the south-facing panels have yellowed and the north ones are still clear, only the first can be redone. Yellowing comes from the sun: a new pane on the exposed side will age faster than its neighbours, and that is normal.
Yes. The panels of a store-bought gazebo come out of the structure one by one, and the structure stays standing where it is. The panel against the fence takes a little more care to free from its clips, but it comes out. It is rebuilt flat on the deck or in the garage entrance, then put back. Nothing gets moved, neither the gazebo nor the furniture under it.
They can. We take the panel out of its opening or, if it is fixed for good, we work the mesh in the frame where it stands: the old mesh and its strip come out, the new mesh is stretched and fixed in the same grooves. The openings of a hand-built wood structure are not all equal, so each one is measured before cutting. The wood is neither planed nor drilled anywhere but the existing holes.
Yes, at your home. We travel to Terrebonne, remove the panels, replace the MICA vinyl in the original frames and put everything back — the gazebo structure is never touched. It is one of our specialties.
Yes. Depending on the retailer it is called MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic or transparent fabric — the same flexible material that cuts wind and holds warmth. We replace it on gazebos and sun shelters alike.
Yes. The vinyl is replaced pane by pane, in the existing frame — no need to redo the whole panel for one tear. If several panes have yellowed, doing them together gives a uniform result.
On assessment: the price depends on the number of panels and their dimensions. The quote is free, and a photo is often enough to price without a visit. Fabrication and installation guaranteed one year.
