Gazebo and sun shelter specialty
Clear vinyl yellowed or torn? Replaced at your home in LaSalle, in the original frames — gazebos and sun shelters.
Three questions are enough to start. The official measurement is taken on site.
Whatever your retailer calls it — MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic, sun-shelter transparent fabric — it is the same material, and we replace it in LaSalle in your existing panels.
Sun yellows and clouds the vinyl. Film that crackles to the touch is at end of life.
Below freezing, MICA turns brittle — one handling or one gust splits it outright.
Slack vinyl flaps like a sail and eventually tears at the seams.
LaSalle mixes three kinds of housing, and only two of them have room for a gazebo. The apartment towers lined up along the river have none: a balcony is not a yard. The 1950s and 1960s bungalows in the residential sectors, on the other hand, have the backyard typical of their era — a rectangle of lawn, a low fence, a deck added in the 1990s or 2000s — and that is where the retail gazebo settled in: an aluminum or steel structure set on the deck or on patio stones, with standard-sized panels. These yards are more open than one might expect in LaSalle, because post-war lots are wide and the hedges are sparse.
The post-war duplexes and small apartment blocks present a different picture: the yard is small, shared, or replaced by a deck at the back of the upstairs unit. The gazebo there is more modest — often a pergola or a small retail shelter fastened to the deck, whose panels serve as much to block the neighbours’ view as to stop insects. In this kind of housing, outdoor space is gained by going up, and the gazebo ends up on a deck rather than on the ground. A gazebo panel there goes down the back stairs and comes back up the same way, which decides how it gets taken apart.
In a LaSalle bungalow yard, the clear vinyl (MICA film) on a retail gazebo has a hard life: wind off the river crosses these open yards and slaps it against its frame until a fold, already yellowed and stiffened by the sun, splits open. That is almost always the part that gives out first. The screening follows later: slack in the middle, torn at a corner, or with a spline working out of its groove on the panel the wind hits head-on. We replace the film to the exact dimensions of the pane, in the original frame; we rescreen the mesh panels in theirs. On a duplex deck, a cat climbing the lower panels adds its claws to the picture: pet-resistant screening fixes that one panel without touching the others.
Two very different kinds of access. In the bungalow sectors, the retail gazebo sits at the back of the yard: panels unclip from the uprights, get redone in the driveway and go back up. In a duplex or a small block, everything goes through the back staircase, often spiral or narrow, and a gazebo panel is long and light — it is carried at an angle, one person below and one above if the stairwell is tight. The structure itself stays bolted to its deck: we do not touch it, whatever its anchoring. On an upstairs deck, a flat spot to lay the panels is also needed — the deck itself, if it is cleared.
The river borders LaSalle and sets the tone: wind on the open yards, and fine insects — evening mosquitoes, no-see-ums — that come with the humidity. On panels facing the wind, aluminum screening keeps its tension where fibreglass bellies out. For evenings near the water, a tight-weave mesh stops what standard mesh lets through. Western sun on an open yard yellows the film within a few summers. The film goes on in the fall to stretch the season on the deck, and comes off in spring if the gazebo is mostly for summer suppers.

This job was not in LaSalle — it shows our method, the same everywhere: panels down, new vinyl pane by pane, panels back up.

« Excellent service. Clear explanations of the work to be done. I really appreciated his dedication: despite the rain he insisted on finishing the job, soaked through and still smiling. The work was very well done. »
« Great service! He was at my neighbour’s and agreed to fix my back screen even though we had no appointment. Very successful repair, and inexpensive! »
« Ludovic replaced my screen in record time. Professional, and with a great sense of humour. I recommend his services — don’t hesitate to contact him, he’ll come to your home and do beautiful work. »
Straight answers
Not necessarily. If the deck has a flat space, the panels come off and are redone right there, one at a time. Otherwise they go down the back stairs — long but light — and come back up once rescreened. The structure stays in place either way. What matters is clearing the deck beforehand.
Film that slaps has lost its tension or its frame has loosened. In an open LaSalle yard the wind works it every day; left alone, it will split along a fold. We replace it stretched tight in its frame, and on the most exposed sides it can make sense to keep aluminum screening and close only the sheltered sides with film.
No. Each panel is redone on its own, in its frame. The one the cat climbs gets pet-resistant screening, which is thicker, and the others keep their mesh if it still holds. The look differs slightly from panel to panel — a little darker — which you accept or not depending on where the panel sits.
Yes, at your home. We travel to LaSalle, remove the panels, replace the MICA vinyl in the original frames and put everything back — the gazebo structure is never touched. It is one of our specialties.
Yes. Depending on the retailer it is called MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic or transparent fabric — the same flexible material that cuts wind and holds warmth. We replace it on gazebos and sun shelters alike.
Yes. The vinyl is replaced pane by pane, in the existing frame — no need to redo the whole panel for one tear. If several panes have yellowed, doing them together gives a uniform result.
On assessment: the price depends on the number of panels and their dimensions. The quote is free, and a photo is often enough to price without a visit. Fabrication and installation guaranteed one year.
