Whatever your retailer calls it — MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic, sun-shelter transparent fabric — it is the same material, and we replace it in Senneville in your existing panels.

Why the vinyl gives up

Summer UV

Sun yellows and clouds the vinyl. Film that crackles to the touch is at end of life.

Winter frost

Below freezing, MICA turns brittle — one handling or one gust splits it outright.

Wind, all year

Slack vinyl flaps like a sail and eventually tears at the seams.

Gazebos in Senneville

Senneville is one of the smallest municipalities on the island, and one of the most wooded. Along Senneville Road, the manors and country houses of the late 19th and early 20th centuries stand on large wooded lots, and the garden shelter there is almost always a permanent wood structure: a pavilion built to measure, framed in solid timber rather than screwed-together extrusions, with heavy posts and openings drawn for the spot. This is not a catalogue gazebo. The panels are large, wood-framed, and no two on the same structure are identical.

The few post-war houses in the village offer the simple version: a retailer gazebo in aluminum or steel, common panel sizes, clear vinyl (MICA film) and screens that come off by clips or screws. That is the easy half of the work. The demanding half remains the wood pavilion on a large property — a piece of work whose film and mesh we redo without ever touching the framing, because the framing has no equivalent and cannot be replaced. The distinction is made on the first visit, and it decides everything that follows.

Screens and vinyl: what gives out in Senneville

On a wood pavilion, the clear vinyl (MICA film) is rarely held by spline: it is fixed with a wood bead, sometimes stapled under the moulding. We take the whole bead off without splitting it, keep it, and refit the vinyl to the measurement taken in the rebate — not edge to edge across the frame, which would give a piece that comes up short. Large panels need their tension pulled back by hand and checked in place: too tight on an old wood frame and the film bows the stiles; too loose and it drums at the first gust. The screens on the same pavilion are rescreened in their frames, with the corners checked before the mesh goes on, never after.

Structure and access in Senneville

Weight and distance are the two real constraints. A wood pavilion panel takes two people to handle and travels flat, and the pavilion is often at the back of a wooded lot, far from anywhere the truck can park. Every panel is numbered as it comes off, because on custom work two neighbouring openings do not give the same measurement and a mix-up only shows at reassembly. On older hardware the original screw is frequently buried in wood that has swollen: we free it rather than force it, and replace it. The framing stays intact from start to finish.

Wind, sun, insects: choosing in Senneville

Under mature trees, a pavilion collects whatever falls on it all year: sap, wet leaves, twigs. Sap marks vinyl deeply, and film rubbed too often goes milky — that is wear, not dirt. Leaves also gather in the bottom of the openings, where they hold damp against the wood: that is where a frame stile rots first. The damp understorey also sustains insects small enough to pass through ordinary mesh, which argues for a tight weave on the sides where people sit in the evening.

A real job, start to finish

This job was not in Senneville — it shows our method, the same everywhere: panels down, new vinyl pane by pane, panels back up.

  1. Six-pane gazebo panel with torn, sagging MICA vinyl before replacement
1 On arrival: the original vinyl, torn
  2. Roll of new MICA vinyl stretched over a gazebo panel frame on the work stand
2 Fitting: new vinyl drawn over the frame
  3. First finished gazebo panel with perfectly clear new MICA vinyl
3 First panel done, crystal-clear vinyl
  4. Finished six-pane gazebo panel with new MICA vinyl and the original frame intact
4 Final result: six panes, frame intact

Common questions

Our garden pavilion has custom wood panels. Can the frames be kept?

That is exactly the aim. A sound wood frame, with corners that hold and stiles that are not split, is worth keeping: the mesh or film goes back into it and it will last years more. The decision is made panel by panel, looking at the joints and the screw holes. A split stile ends that piece, and we then build a frame to the same measurement.

The film has gone cloudy under sap and fine scratches. Is that something a wash fixes, or is it past saving?

Fresh sap comes off. The real trouble is the scratching that builds up from repeated rubbing: the vinyl goes milky and scatters the light, and no cleaning recovers it because the surface itself is marked. If you can still see clearly through it, keep it; if the view is hazy and whitish, the material is spent and the light needs replacing.

The pavilion is far from the driveway, at the back of the wooded lot. Is that a problem?

No, but it is worth planning. We work from a mobile shop, so panels have to travel between the pavilion and the truck — flat, and two-handed for the larger ones. A cleared path helps a great deal. Mentioning the rough distance and the number of panels when you call changes how the visit is organized, not whether it can be done.

Do you replace gazebo vinyl in Senneville?

Yes, at your home. We travel to Senneville, remove the panels, replace the MICA vinyl in the original frames and put everything back — the gazebo structure is never touched. It is one of our specialties.

MICA film, clear vinyl, gazebo plastic: are they the same thing?

Yes. Depending on the retailer it is called MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic or transparent fabric — the same flexible material that cuts wind and holds warmth. We replace it on gazebos and sun shelters alike.

Can a single pane be replaced?

Yes. The vinyl is replaced pane by pane, in the existing frame — no need to redo the whole panel for one tear. If several panes have yellowed, doing them together gives a uniform result.

What does it cost?

On assessment: the price depends on the number of panels and their dimensions. The quote is free, and a photo is often enough to price without a visit. Fabrication and installation guaranteed one year.
