Whatever your retailer calls it — MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic, sun-shelter transparent fabric — it is the same material, and we replace it in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue in your existing panels.

Why the vinyl gives up

Summer UV

Sun yellows and clouds the vinyl. Film that crackles to the touch is at end of life.

Winter frost

Below freezing, MICA turns brittle — one handling or one gust splits it outright.

Wind, all year

Slack vinyl flaps like a sail and eventually tears at the seams.

Gazebos in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue

Gazebos here read as three quite different properties. In the village core, along rue Sainte-Anne and the canal, the stone and wood houses of the 19th century never had a gazebo to begin with: what you find is a wooden structure added much later, custom-built at the back of the lot, with panels no two of which share a size. This is the permanent gazebo, the one that is not taken down in the fall, whose screens are nailed or stapled into wooden frames and whose clear vinyl (MICA film) goes on over them to last until spring. Looking after it is closer to looking after a screened porch than a garden shelter bought assembled.

Around the village, the post-war bungalows have the classic backyards of their era, deep enough for a retail aluminum or steel gazebo with standard-size panels set on a slab or a deck. On this kind of lot it is by far the most common case, and the simplest to rebuild. The newer condo projects bring back the small terrace gazebo or pergola, compact, chosen to fit the private outdoor space. What unites these three properties at the western tip of the island is water that is never far away: a Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue gazebo lives with the wind off the water and the insects of the shoreline, whatever the age of the house behind it.

Screens and vinyl: what gives out in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue

On a wooden structure near the canal, the screens are usually stretched in frames that have moved: the wood has swelled and dried through the seasons, the mesh has slackened, the staples have rusted, and the wind finishes the job at the most exposed corner. We rescreen each panel in its original wooden frame with new fasteners, and we fit clear vinyl cut to the exact dimensions of each opening — no two are alike, so everything is measured on site. On the retail gazebos behind the bungalows, the vinyl is the tired part: yellowed, stiff, split in the first big October wind. It is replaced pane by pane in the original frame, and the screen panels are rescreened in the same visit if they flap or have torn.

Structure and access in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue

A custom wooden structure dictates its own method: panels do not unclip, they unscrew or pry loose, and an opening that is out of square needs mesh cut to its real shape, not to a theoretical rectangle. A bungalow’s retail gazebo comes apart by panel and is rebuilt in the mobile workshop; on a condo terrace the panels travel down the stairs to the truck. In every case the structure stays intact: we rebuild what is stretched inside it, not what holds it up. On a village wooden structure no opening resembles the next: it is the panel-by-panel measuring, not the distance, that sets how the work is prepared.

Wind, sun, insects: choosing in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue

The canal and the water wrapping the point give a gazebo here two adversaries. Wind first, arriving unobstructed across a yard open to the water: clear vinyl flaps and splits faster than elsewhere, and fibreglass mesh bellies out until it leaves its spline — aluminum holds tension better on those panels. Then insects: springtime no-see-ums and black flies pass through ordinary mesh, and a waterside gazebo is better served by a tight-weave screen, even at the cost of a little light. The vinyl goes on before the first cold and stays as long as the autumn wind makes the shelter worth having.

A real job, start to finish

This job was not in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue — it shows our method, the same everywhere: panels down, new vinyl pane by pane, panels back up.

  1. Six-pane gazebo panel with torn, sagging MICA vinyl before replacement
1 On arrival: the original vinyl, torn
  2. Roll of new MICA vinyl stretched over a gazebo panel frame on the work stand
2 Fitting: new vinyl drawn over the frame
  3. First finished gazebo panel with perfectly clear new MICA vinyl
3 First panel done, crystal-clear vinyl
  4. Finished six-pane gazebo panel with new MICA vinyl and the original frame intact
4 Final result: six panes, frame intact

Straight answers

Common questions

My gazebo is a custom wooden structure near the canal. Can the screens be redone without dismantling it?

Yes. On a permanent structure the panels come out one at a time — unscrewed or pried loose — and are rescreened in their original wooden frames with new fasteners. Since no panel matches another, each is measured and rebuilt to its actual dimensions, on site. The frame, roof and floor are not touched.

No-see-ums get through the panels of my waterside gazebo. Is the screening defective?

Not necessarily: on a gazebo the factory mesh is nearly always the most open weave in the catalogue — it stops mosquitoes and lets anything smaller through. The answer is a tight-weave screen fitted in the same frames. It darkens the inside of the gazebo slightly and lets a little less air through, which is worth discussing panel by panel depending on exposure.

I am in a newer condo with a small pergola on the terrace. Can clear vinyl be fitted to it?

Yes, if the pergola has framed panels or openings closed by a rigid frame: the vinyl is cut to each opening and fixed in the frame. On an open pergola with no panels there is nothing to hold it, and the wind off the water would quickly finish off a film that is merely stretched across. We check the structure before proposing anything.

Do you replace gazebo vinyl in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue?

Yes, at your home. We travel to Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, remove the panels, replace the MICA vinyl in the original frames and put everything back — the gazebo structure is never touched. It is one of our specialties.

MICA film, clear vinyl, gazebo plastic: are they the same thing?

Yes. Depending on the retailer it is called MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic or transparent fabric — the same flexible material that cuts wind and holds warmth. We replace it on gazebos and sun shelters alike.

Can a single pane be replaced?

Yes. The vinyl is replaced pane by pane, in the existing frame — no need to redo the whole panel for one tear. If several panes have yellowed, doing them together gives a uniform result.

What does it cost?

On assessment: the price depends on the number of panels and their dimensions. The quote is free, and a photo is often enough to price without a visit. Fabrication and installation guaranteed one year.
