Whatever your retailer calls it — MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic, sun-shelter transparent fabric — it is the same material, and we replace it in Saint-Amable in your existing panels.

Why the vinyl gives up

Summer UV

Sun yellows and clouds the vinyl. Film that crackles to the touch is at end of life.

Winter frost

Below freezing, MICA turns brittle — one handling or one gust splits it outright.

Wind, all year

Slack vinyl flaps like a sail and eventually tears at the seams.

Gazebos in Saint-Amable

Saint-Amable has grown quickly since the 1980s, and its yards look much alike from street to street: bungalow, two-storey or semi-detached, a sliding patio door at the back and a patio right behind it. The gazebo almost always lands there, on the deck or beside it, a couple of steps from the door — it is the direct extension of the kitchen or the living room. Since the lots are comparable in size, so are the models: retailer gazebos with aluminum or steel framing and standard panel sizes, picked up at a big-box store over successive summers. That is the dominant profile, and it wears out in predictable ways.

A recent development has another trait: the yards age together. On one deck, the film and the screen do not age at the same rate: the vinyl takes the full sun of the pane while the mesh sits in the shade of the gazebo roof. Add tree cover that has not yet reached the size of an older neighbourhood: sun hits the deck full on, and wind moves freely between houses and semis, through narrow gaps that speed it up. On the semis the yard is smaller still, and the gazebo ends up wedged between the fence and the deck — more exposed than it looks.

Screens and vinyl: what gives out in Saint-Amable

On gazebos like these, two spots give way before the rest. The entry pane, the only one pushed aside by hand every time someone steps out, slackens at the corner and eventually tears exactly where the hand always pulls. And the clear vinyl (MICA film), in full sun on a light-coloured deck that throws heat back up at it, yellows, stiffens, and then splits in the first good gust. The other panels follow later: mesh bellying out, spline driven from its groove, a frame beginning to gape. Every panel comes off, is rescreened or takes new film cut pane by pane to measurements taken on site, and goes back in exactly its own place. The structure does not move.

Structure and access in Saint-Amable

Here the gazebo is often built on the deck itself, right against the patio door, and that shapes the visit. Panels come down the steps one at a time, flat, to the mobile shop parked in the driveway; on a semi, everything may have to go down one side of the lot only, and that gets planned before anything starts. Standard retailer sizes simplify the rest: they repeat from panel to panel, which makes the measuring quick — but every frame still gets measured, because a frame that has deformed no longer holds its original dimension.

Wind, sun, insects: choosing in Saint-Amable

A yard in a newer neighbourhood offers little shade: direct sun is what wears the film, and it yellows first on the most exposed side. Wind, funnelled between closely spaced houses, keeps it flapping the rest of the time — film reset to true dimensions and properly tensioned takes that far better, and on the most exposed faces aluminum mesh holds tension where fibreglass ripples. For late-summer evenings, a tighter weave changes the comfort. Film goes on before the first hard cold.

A real job, start to finish

This job was not in Saint-Amable — it shows our method, the same everywhere: panels down, new vinyl pane by pane, panels back up.

  1. Six-pane gazebo panel with torn, sagging MICA vinyl before replacement
1 On arrival: the original vinyl, torn
  2. Roll of new MICA vinyl stretched over a gazebo panel frame on the work stand
2 Fitting: new vinyl drawn over the frame
  3. First finished gazebo panel with perfectly clear new MICA vinyl
3 First panel done, crystal-clear vinyl
  4. Finished six-pane gazebo panel with new MICA vinyl and the original frame intact
4 Final result: six panes, frame intact

Common questions

The pane used as the door is the only one torn. Can just that one be redone?

Yes, and it is common: that panel works far harder than the others. It comes off, gets rescreened in its own frame and goes back tensioned. We still look at its neighbours while we are there — mesh already slack elsewhere will follow eventually, and one trip beats two.

My gazebo is fixed to the deck, right against the patio door. Does it have to be detached?

No. The anchoring and the framing stay put; only the panels leave their seats. What we check before starting is the clearance around the patio door: there has to be enough room to tilt a panel and bring it out without straining the frame or scraping the glass.

My film is split on one face only. Do the panes on the other faces have to be redone at the same time?

Often yes, when they show the same signs — mesh slack throughout, vinyl yellowed on every face. Doing the set in one visit avoids taking the same structure apart twice. But if only one face has taken the wind and the sun, nothing forces you to touch the others: we decide panel by panel, after seeing them.

Do you replace gazebo vinyl in Saint-Amable?

Yes, at your home. We travel to Saint-Amable, remove the panels, replace the MICA vinyl in the original frames and put everything back — the gazebo structure is never touched. It is one of our specialties.

MICA film, clear vinyl, gazebo plastic: are they the same thing?

Yes. Depending on the retailer it is called MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic or transparent fabric — the same flexible material that cuts wind and holds warmth. We replace it on gazebos and sun shelters alike.

Can a single pane be replaced?

Yes. The vinyl is replaced pane by pane, in the existing frame — no need to redo the whole panel for one tear. If several panes have yellowed, doing them together gives a uniform result.

What does it cost?

On assessment: the price depends on the number of panels and their dimensions. The quote is free, and a photo is often enough to price without a visit. Fabrication and installation guaranteed one year.
