Gazebo and sun shelter specialty
Clear vinyl yellowed or torn? Replaced at your home in Chambly, in the original frames — gazebos and sun shelters.
Three questions are enough to start. The official measurement is taken on site.
Whatever your retailer calls it — MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic, sun-shelter transparent fabric — it is the same material, and we replace it in Chambly in your existing panels.
Sun yellows and clouds the vinyl. Film that crackles to the touch is at end of life.
Below freezing, MICA turns brittle — one handling or one gust splits it outright.
Slack vinyl flaps like a sail and eventually tears at the seams.
In Chambly, the kind of gazebo you find depends on how far you are from the basin. In the large newer cottage neighbourhoods, farther from the water, the retail gazebo dominates: an aluminum or steel frame, standard-size panels, clear vinyl (MICA film) in panes, set on the back deck of a recent house. Those yards are often wide open, without trees tall enough to break the wind, and the film works hard from October to April. In the bungalow streets of the 1970s and 1980s, the gazebo is more often as old as the second or third deck, and its original panels usually need new film before anything else.
Around the basin and the fort, the old stone-and-wood core never came with gazebos. When a yard has one, it is an addition, almost always in wood, designed to suit the house and built to measure — the kind of permanent structure also found on lots that touch the water. Its panels are one of a kind: no two openings the same width, grooves cut into wood rather than extruded in aluminum, sometimes screwed-on wood strips holding the mesh. None of it can be ordered; all of it is measured on site, opening by opening, and redone in the frame that is already there.
On a retail gazebo near the basin or in an open yard, the film is the sacrificial piece: wind crossing a wide stretch of water arrives unchecked, sets the film flapping, and film already stiffened by frost splits at the first crease. We replace it pane by pane, cut to the exact size of the pane, in the original frame. The screen lasts longer but eventually sags or lets its spline out; we rescreen it in its frame. On a wooden structure the mesh goes in differently — stretched over the frame and held by its groove or its strips — and the film is cut to a template of each opening, which rules out anything pre-cut.
The retail gazebo of the cottage neighbourhoods comes apart panel by panel on the deck, gets redone in the mobile workshop and goes back up; the yard is generally open enough to work around it. A permanent wooden structure raises two questions before the first cut: the condition of the wood holding the mesh — a split groove or a rotted strip is repaired first — and how the panels are fastened, screwed or nailed, which decides whether they come off or get redone in place. On a lot that slopes down toward the basin, we also plan where the panels will rest without twisting.
The Chambly basin is a wide sheet of open water, and the wind crossing it hits the gazebos of the yards facing it with nothing in the way. That is the first factor here, ahead of the sun: film on those panels comes down in spring if the gazebo is a summer room, and aluminum mesh earns its place on the windward side. The water also brings its river insects, finer than what a standard mesh stops — a tight-weave screen is the answer on a waterside gazebo, at the cost of a little airflow. Farther out, in the cottages, direct sun is the real wear: yellowed film, brittle fibreglass.

This job was not in Chambly — it shows our method, the same everywhere: panels down, new vinyl pane by pane, panels back up.

Straight answers
We unscrew the strips, remove the old mesh, stretch the new mesh over the frame and screw the strips back over it, replacing any that have split or rotted. It takes longer than spline in an aluminum groove, but it is what suits a wooden structure. Film goes on the same way, cut to a template of each opening.
Most often, yes: the side that takes direct afternoon sun yellows and stiffens before the others, even when all the film went up as one batch. Only those panes need redoing, cut to exact size, in the original frame. If the gazebo is mainly used in summer, leaving the film up all year speeds up that aging.
On the side that takes the wind off the basin, aluminum mesh holds its tension where fibreglass loosens every season. If the insects off the water are the problem rather than tension, a tight-weave fibreglass stops what ordinary mesh lets through. The two answers are not exclusive: each panel can get the mesh that suits its exposure.
Yes, at your home. We travel to Chambly, remove the panels, replace the MICA vinyl in the original frames and put everything back — the gazebo structure is never touched. It is one of our specialties.
Yes. Depending on the retailer it is called MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic or transparent fabric — the same flexible material that cuts wind and holds warmth. We replace it on gazebos and sun shelters alike.
Yes. The vinyl is replaced pane by pane, in the existing frame — no need to redo the whole panel for one tear. If several panes have yellowed, doing them together gives a uniform result.
On assessment: the price depends on the number of panels and their dimensions. The quote is free, and a photo is often enough to price without a visit. Fabrication and installation guaranteed one year.
