Gazebo and sun shelter specialty
Clear vinyl yellowed or torn? Replaced at your home in Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu, in the original frames — gazebos and sun shelters.
Three questions are enough to start. The official measurement is taken on site.
Whatever your retailer calls it — MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic, sun-shelter transparent fabric — it is the same material, and we replace it in Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu in your existing panels.
Sun yellows and clouds the vinyl. Film that crackles to the touch is at end of life.
Below freezing, MICA turns brittle — one handling or one gust splits it outright.
Slack vinyl flaps like a sail and eventually tears at the seams.
On the west bank of the Richelieu, the 19th-century stone and wood houses of Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu turn their front verandas toward the street. Outdoor living happens behind them, and that is where the gazebos are — none of them original. On a building of that age, a gazebo is always something added long after the house, and here it most often takes the form of a wood structure built to fit the yard it stands in. On a building of that age it is the room left behind the house that decides: the structure was built to whatever dimensions the yard allowed, which is what makes its openings particular to that yard. The result: panels that are one of a kind, no two matching from one side of the same gazebo to the other.
Out beyond the village, the farmland changes everything. On a working property the gazebo sits in the middle of an open lawn, with no hedge or building to break the wind, taking sun from morning until evening. That is where the retailer model dominates: an aluminum or steel frame, standard-sized panels, and the original clear vinyl (MICA film) still in place. Both situations call for the same work but not the same preparation. In a village yard, every panel is measured on its own; on a retailer structure the sizes repeat, and it is exposure and the age of the film that decide what gets redone this year.
On a gazebo, the clear vinyl almost always fails before the screening does. It yellows first, then stiffens — and stiffened vinyl no longer forgives a gust, so the tear starts at a corner or along a fastening line rather than in the middle of the panel. The screening follows later: a torn corner, slack mesh that snaps in the wind, spline creeping out of its groove and leaving the edge gaping. Everything we redo lives in the panels, never in the structure. The film is replaced to exact dimensions, panel by panel, in the original frame; screen panels are rescreened in their own frames. On site, each panel comes out, is rebuilt in the mobile workshop, and goes back in its own opening.
A wood structure built for one specific yard has no two identical openings: dimensions are taken on site, one panel at a time, and the reassembly order is noted as we go, because a wood panel put back the wrong way around will not line up with its screws. Access matters too. In the village core the back yard is reached by a narrow path between the house and the property line, sometimes past a veranda; on a farm property the gazebo is simply far away, and the panels cross the lawn by hand. None of this is an obstacle, but it is worth knowing before we arrive.
Under a gazebo you stay in one place all evening: whatever crosses a standard weave makes itself felt far faster than it would behind a window, and it is the weave of the panel, not its frame, that settles the matter. Wind separates the two situations: sheltered by the tight-built village, a large panel works very little; out on a farm property it works from morning to night, and that is where aluminum mesh keeps its tension while fibreglass starts to ripple.

This job was not in Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu — it shows our method, the same everywhere: panels down, new vinyl pane by pane, panels back up.

Yes, and that is the normal situation on this kind of structure. Every opening is measured on its own, panel by panel, and both the film and the mesh are cut to those dimensions. The original wood frame stays: only what sits inside it is replaced. Panels are marked as they come out so each one returns to its own opening.
Stiffened vinyl is already at the end of its life: it has lost the flexibility that let it absorb a gust, and the split usually arrives with the first strong wind, most often on the most exposed panel. Redoing it while the frame is still sound is simpler than adding a torn spline or pulled fastening to the job later.
No. The panels come out on site and are carried to the mobile workshop by hand; it is the access path that is worth mentioning ahead of time, especially if it is narrow or runs past a veranda. Knowing how many panels are coming out and which way they leave is enough to plan the visit.
Yes, at your home. We travel to Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu, remove the panels, replace the MICA vinyl in the original frames and put everything back — the gazebo structure is never touched. It is one of our specialties.
Yes. Depending on the retailer it is called MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic or transparent fabric — the same flexible material that cuts wind and holds warmth. We replace it on gazebos and sun shelters alike.
Yes. The vinyl is replaced pane by pane, in the existing frame — no need to redo the whole panel for one tear. If several panes have yellowed, doing them together gives a uniform result.
On assessment: the price depends on the number of panels and their dimensions. The quote is free, and a photo is often enough to price without a visit. Fabrication and installation guaranteed one year.
