Whatever your retailer calls it — MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic, sun-shelter transparent fabric — it is the same material, and we replace it in Sainte-Victoire-de-Sorel in your existing panels.

Why the vinyl gives up

Summer UV

Sun yellows and clouds the vinyl. Film that crackles to the touch is at end of life.

Winter frost

Below freezing, MICA turns brittle — one handling or one gust splits it outright.

Wind, all year

Slack vinyl flaps like a sail and eventually tears at the seams.

Gazebos in Sainte-Victoire-de-Sorel

Sainte-Victoire-de-Sorel is a farming municipality of rangs, and it shows in the yards. Around a farmhouse, the gazebo is not wedged between two fences: it sits on the lawn a few steps from the house, sometimes in the middle of nothing at all. Nothing shelters it, in any direction. Rang properties often carry a wood structure built right there, out of framing lumber, with openings sized by saw — the kind of build you take on when you have the room, the tools and the habit of building your own. The panels are large, heavy, and there is no store equivalent for any of them.

The village core and its wood houses give the other picture, a more modest one: smaller lots, ordinary back yards, and retailer gazebos in aluminum or steel bought ready to assemble, with their common-size panels. The few newer bungalows around the core are in the same situation. Those are the gazebos that most often turn up at the end of the film’s life: ten, fifteen or twenty summers in the same spot with nothing ever changed, until the day one light splits and you notice the rest are in the same condition.

Screens and vinyl: what gives out in Sainte-Victoire-de-Sorel

In a rang yard with no shade, clear vinyl (MICA film) ages quickly and predictably. It yellows first on the sunniest face, stiffens, then splits — almost always starting at a corner, where the tension concentrates. We redo it light by light, to measurements taken on site, in the existing frame. Screen lasts longer but fails differently: the mesh slackens through the heat-and-cold cycles, starts to bulge, and the spline eventually lifts out along one side. We then rescreen in the frame with fresh spline of the right size, pulling the tension back by hand rather than dragging on the mesh until it distorts.

Structure and access in Sainte-Victoire-de-Sorel

The two structures create opposite problems. A retailer gazebo left in place fifteen years has seized screws and brittle clips that get replaced during removal: not difficult, but time to plan for. An owner-built wood structure, on the other hand, has no panels designed to be removable — they are often screwed or nailed into the framing, and you open only what has to be opened to get the piece out without damaging the wood. Access, though, is rarely an obstacle here: flat ground, no tight fencing, and the truck can park near the structure. That is the advantage of large lots.

Wind, sun, insects: choosing in Sainte-Victoire-de-Sorel

A rang gazebo lives with four hard conditions at once. Wind crosses the fields with nothing to slow it, which argues for aluminum on the large panels and for film installed with no slack whatsoever. Sun strikes unshaded from morning to evening and shortens the vinyl’s life on the exposed face. Between two rangs, the narrowest belt of trees and the ditch beside it shelter insects that ordinary fibreglass lets straight through. And dust raised by work in the fields settles on the film: it rinses off, but it cannot be rubbed dry without scratching the vinyl.

A real job, start to finish

This job was not in Sainte-Victoire-de-Sorel — it shows our method, the same everywhere: panels down, new vinyl pane by pane, panels back up.

  1. Six-pane gazebo panel with torn, sagging MICA vinyl before replacement
1 On arrival: the original vinyl, torn
  2. Roll of new MICA vinyl stretched over a gazebo panel frame on the work stand
2 Fitting: new vinyl drawn over the frame
  3. First finished gazebo panel with perfectly clear new MICA vinyl
3 First panel done, crystal-clear vinyl
  4. Finished six-pane gazebo panel with new MICA vinyl and the original frame intact
4 Final result: six panes, frame intact

Common questions

The gazebo sits in the middle of the yard with nothing to break the wind. The film splits every year.

In that case the tension and the fastening matter as much as the vinyl itself. Film installed with slack drums, fatigues at the same corner every time, and lets go. Installed properly stretched, in spline of the correct size and with the attachment points tightened, it takes far more. On the face that catches the prevailing wind, you can also accept redoing that one more often than the other three.

Our gazebo was built on site out of wood. The panels look like nothing sold in stores.

That is normal, and it is not a problem. We measure each opening on all four sides — a hand-built structure is not square everywhere — and both film and mesh are cut to those measurements. The original frame stays, and the framing is not touched. This is exactly the kind of piece you cannot replace by buying one.

The cat climbs on the lower panels and the mesh is already holed in two places.

A classic on a gazebo you can walk straight into. The fix is not to rescreen with the same thing: standard mesh does not stand up to claws, and the hole will come back in the same spot. We fit pet-resistant mesh, which is tougher, on the lower panels only, and keep the regular mesh above, where visibility matters more.

Do you replace gazebo vinyl in Sainte-Victoire-de-Sorel?

Yes, at your home. We travel to Sainte-Victoire-de-Sorel, remove the panels, replace the MICA vinyl in the original frames and put everything back — the gazebo structure is never touched. It is one of our specialties.

MICA film, clear vinyl, gazebo plastic: are they the same thing?

Yes. Depending on the retailer it is called MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic or transparent fabric — the same flexible material that cuts wind and holds warmth. We replace it on gazebos and sun shelters alike.

Can a single pane be replaced?

Yes. The vinyl is replaced pane by pane, in the existing frame — no need to redo the whole panel for one tear. If several panes have yellowed, doing them together gives a uniform result.

What does it cost?

On assessment: the price depends on the number of panels and their dimensions. The quote is free, and a photo is often enough to price without a visit. Fabrication and installation guaranteed one year.
