Gazebo and sun shelter specialty
Clear vinyl yellowed or torn? Replaced at your home in Ville-Marie, in the original frames — gazebos and sun shelters.
Three questions are enough to start. The official measurement is taken on site.
Whatever your retailer calls it — MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic, sun-shelter transparent fabric — it is the same material, and we replace it in Ville-Marie in your existing panels.
Sun yellows and clouds the vinyl. Film that crackles to the touch is at end of life.
Below freezing, MICA turns brittle — one handling or one gust splits it outright.
Slack vinyl flaps like a sail and eventually tears at the seams.
Ville-Marie is a downtown of condo and apartment towers, so the gazebo is not in a yard: it is on a roof. Condo towers and apartment buildings have shared rooftop decks and private terraces up in the storeys, where you find pergolas dressed with panels and small store-bought gazebos anchored into the deck. Up there the wind rules: it climbs the façades, wraps around the corners of the towers and drives in under gazebo roofs. Panels travel up and down in the elevator, and every job is coordinated with building management before a single panel is unclipped. These structures are light by necessity, and so are their panels.
In Centre-Sud and the Village, the older half of Ville-Marie, the brick duplexes and triplexes with outside staircases have small backyards and a balcony on every floor. The gazebo there is a small store-bought model set at the back of the yard, sometimes between two spiral staircases, or a balcony pergola closed in with light panels. Sheds and neighbouring walls cut the wind but hold the heat: those mineral yards bake all summer, and clear vinyl left up in them yellows fast on the sunny side while the shaded side stays clear. The contrast shows from one pane to the next on the very same gazebo.
On the roofs, clear vinyl (MICA film) does not last long: it slaps at every gust, stiffens at the first frost and splits along the frame. The screen on the big pergola panels slackens, then the spline lifts out of its groove on one side and the panel whistles. In the Centre-Sud yards the wear is slower but dirtier: vinyl yellowed in stripes, screen torn at the corner that meets the staircase or the walkway. Up on a terrace the pane is measured where it comes off and the panel never leaves the deck: the vinyl is trimmed on the spot, the mesh brought back to tension in its frame, and nothing rides the elevator down before it goes back up. The structure — anchored to the roof deck or standing in the yard — does not move.
Up high, everything goes through the service elevator and the syndicate’s say-so; a pergola panel is rebuilt flat on the terrace itself, one at a time, and a panel the wind could lift is never left without a hand on it. In the plexes the way to the yard is the outside spiral staircase — where a two-metre panel will not fit — or the lane. On a balcony pergola the panels are small and get rebuilt on the spot, on the balcony floor. Store-bought gazebo or wood structure, only the panels are handled, never the anchors or the framing.
Wind first, up high: vinyl pulled tight in a straight frame, and aluminum mesh on exposed screen panels, because fibreglass bellies and slackens in wind climbing a tower. Sun next, down in the yards: the downtown heat island yellows and stiffens vinyl left up all summer. On a gazebo panel it is area, not weave, that decides: a whole opening lets in at once what a window lets through in fits, and well-tensioned standard fibreglass is enough there as long as the spline holds on all four sides.

This job was not in Ville-Marie — it shows our method, the same everywhere: panels down, new vinyl pane by pane, panels back up.

« Great service! He was at my neighbour’s and agreed to fix my back screen even though we had no appointment. Very successful repair, and inexpensive! »
« Ludovic replaced my screen in record time. Professional, and with a great sense of humour. I recommend his services — don’t hesitate to contact him, he’ll come to your home and do beautiful work. »
« Excellent service. Clear explanations of the work to be done. I really appreciated his dedication: despite the rain he insisted on finishing the job, soaked through and still smiling. The work was very well done. »
Straight answers
Yes, and the structure does not come down. The panels come out one by one, are rebuilt flat on the deck and go back in place; the anchoring to the roof deck is never touched. It takes management’s go-ahead, access through the service elevator, and a day without strong wind to handle light panels at height safely.
Balcony panels are small enough to be rebuilt on the balcony itself: the torn mesh and spline come out, new mesh is stretched in the frame and new spline pressed in, flat on the balcony floor. Nothing goes down the spiral. A panel larger than the balcony is rebuilt in the yard instead, brought in by the lane.
Because the wind wraps around the same corner of the tower every time and hits that pane first. Vinyl fixed a little less tightly there, or a frame slightly warped on that side, flaps more and splits in the frost. We straighten the frame, cut new clear vinyl to the exact size and pull it tight; on that pane, continuous fastening on all four sides makes the difference.
Yes, at your home. We travel to Ville-Marie, remove the panels, replace the MICA vinyl in the original frames and put everything back — the gazebo structure is never touched. It is one of our specialties.
Yes. Depending on the retailer it is called MICA film, clear vinyl, clear plastic or transparent fabric — the same flexible material that cuts wind and holds warmth. We replace it on gazebos and sun shelters alike.
Yes. The vinyl is replaced pane by pane, in the existing frame — no need to redo the whole panel for one tear. If several panes have yellowed, doing them together gives a uniform result.
On assessment: the price depends on the number of panels and their dimensions. The quote is free, and a photo is often enough to price without a visit. Fabrication and installation guaranteed one year.
